ABOUT THE ARTIST
Arthur Gresham was born in Sheffield, England. He arrived in Toronto in April 1911, and studied at the Ontario College of Art. Gresham first exhibited with the Ontario Society of Artists in 1923 and with the Royal Canadian Academy in 1924 with two subjects in watercolours.
Except for the year 1928, when he exhibited 3 etchings with the Graphic Arts Exhibition, Gresham exhibited every year from 1923 to 1935 with either the RCA or OSA. He has exhibited by invitation at the National Gallery, Ottawa; The Manor Richelieu, Murray Bay, Quebec; The Canadian National Exhibition, Toronto; St. Catherines, Ontario; Jarvis Collegiate Institute, Toronto; and the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.
He was a member of the Canadian Society of Graphic Art for fourteen years; held office as treasurer, secretary, and vice-president, and later resigned in 1934. Gresham was on the Board of Governors of the Ontario College of Art for a few years in the early thirties.
Arthur Gresham was represented in the Co-federation Art Gallery, Charlottetown, PEI; Jarvis Collegiate Institute Collection of Canadian Art; and The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.
