ABOUT THE ARTIST

Audrey Bowen was born in Vancouver. She studied art through short courses, but it was after coming to Penticton with her husband in 1950 that she began to pursue painting more seriously. She was extremely active in the Art Club and served as Show Committee Chairman and promoted civic art. She began painting in oils, but changed to acrylics after an Okanagan Summer School of the Arts course. Her work has been shown in group and juried exhibitions throughout the Okanagan Valley, with solo shows in Kelowna and Penticton. Her solo show sponsored by the Alberta Government Arts & Grafts Division was the result of an arts survey tour by Les Graff. The artist has spent extended time in Europe and Mexico and eastern Canada. Her comment once about painting was, "Painting is ninety percent frustration and ten percent joy."

Her work from her solo show sponsored by the Alberta Government in 1973 was donated anonymously to the Permanent Collection by an Art Club member.
