Artist Statement: My art practice focuses on mourning rituals, war, and the natural environment, from a feminist perspective. My grandmothers were avid quilt-makers, and as a child I learned basic sewing skills essential for life on a farm. I am particularly inspired by the textile traditions of Newfoundland, where I lived for many years. I create installations using everyday textiles such as worn clothing, vintage aprons, and fabric flowers. In my work I often juxtapose contradicting elements or ideas, and my use of domestic materials honours the humble and the hand-made labour of women.
