Artist Statement: I am greatly influenced by both Old Master and Contemporary impressionist painters. As a landscape painter I am more interested in capturing the essence of what I see before me rather than create an exact likeness of the scene. There is no lack of inspiration in the beautiful Shuswap area that surrounds my Salmon Arm home. I am an enthusiastic plein air (outdoor) painter spring throughout fall. When outdoors I paint small 8x10 studies in oil paint. When in the studio I paint in acrylic using the outdoor studies and photos as my reference material.

As an artist I strive to create paintings that speak both to me and others about the beauty that exists in nature . I am so very grateful to be living in a country that has so much beauty and am often overwhelmed by how much wide open natural space we still have around us. My hope is that the viewers of my paintings will be drawn into the piece and experience the joy and emotion I feel when creating the art.

Biography: Janice is a well-known Shuswap artist, a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, the Shuswap Life Drawing Club, the Salmon Arm Sketch and Paint Club and the Salmon Arm Arts Center. Her work is seen both in FCA and local shows and on her webpage, jcstudioart.net, where inquiries are welcome. Janice has won several awards in the FCA juried shows.
Janice paints peaceful and contemplative paintings that capture the spirit of the landscape. She currently enjoys acrylics while working indoors and oil on her many plein air (outdoor) excursions. An avid outdoor painter, the wide open spaces and colors of B.C. and especially the Shuswap are the focus of her landscape pieces.
