Artist Statement: My practice as an art teacher has influenced the type of art that I enjoy making. Having the privilege to be able to explore my choice of mediums and indulge my eclectic nature. Recently I have been creating painting that focus on layers and a goal of keeping the glow and not over working the paint. I tend to enjoy figurative or landscape painting but can delve into non-objective subject matter should the mood strike me. I believe that an artist has an innate style in everything that they do and if they have the opportunity to explore a variety of mediums they should do so.
Biography: Having grown up in Penticton, I pursued my BFA in Kelowna taking a wide variety of classes. Having graduated I spent a year as part of an Artist collective running an independent Art gallery in Kelowna. I moved to Vancouver to attend UBC to earn my BEd with a focus on teaching Art and moved to Fort St. John, BC to begin my teaching career in 1999. I have been teaching and practice Art in FSJ for the last 21 years and recently completed my Masters in Education with a focus on Curriculum & Instruction. My Masters thesis was focused on the reciprocal relationship between being an Artist and Teacher and how each has informed my practice as both an Artist and as a teacher.
