Artist Statement: From a young age, I have been compelled to paint. Quite simply, painting is my passion. I produce artwork to which people can find an emotional attachment. Living in wine country, the focus of the majority of my paintings is vineyards, mountains and lakes. However, I do enjoy and am challenged to capture the scenery on travels throughout Western and Northern Canada.

My focus has been on large canvasses, vibrant colour and bold brushstrokes. These elements allow me to capture the impressionistic view of the landscape rather than a detailed rendering. I start with a composition but at some point, the painting takes over! A blank canvas is the start of a new adventure!

Biography: Born into an artistic family in Québec, Libby started art at a young age. Although studying art at school, including classes at the Ontario College of Art, Libby’s life took a different path as her family moved to India where she studied Nursing. She finished her degree at Queens University and then married a Military Officer. Their years together have included two children and involved travelling the globe, living in Europe, the Mediterranean and across Canada. Libby maintained an interest in art and studied wherever she could in spite of frequent moves - first year Fine Arts at the University of Alberta, watercolour and acrylic courses, etching, life drawing and art history. She painted and sold her art on these travels and her paintings can be found in private and public collections around the world including that of the Belgian Royal Family. Now living in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, Libby takes delight in the rhythm of the rows of vines, the gentle hills covered in sage brush and the ever changing colours of the lakes. Farther afield, on camping trips, Libby captures the incredible landscapes of Northern BC, Yukon, Haida Gwaii, the Prairies and more locations to come!
