Artist Statement: Engagement with materials and process are integral to my practice. My work intends to slow the experience of looking and encourages the viewer to reconsider the familiar. I employ a variety of mediums and formats from large installations to small collages, generally working in discreet series to explore the topography of my materials.
Since receiving my BFA from Emily Carr my work has become increasingly three dimensional and often incorporates both found and made elements, mirroring my interest in their formal qualities while suggesting alternative narratives for both the environment and the creative process.
As well as exhibiting regularly, I have also participated in a number of collaborative and community based art projects. My work can be found in both private and public collections.
Biography: After a peripatetic childhood which revealed the variability of local perspectives and the importance of observation, Vancouver is now home. This early experience sparked my fascination in the language of objects and the way people connect with common materials that surround them. Often my lived experience stimulates my investigations with series such as Book Bytes, reflecting my library employment, Notions, after inheriting an old sewing box, or Threnody, Oh! Canada and Mapped Perspectives my abiding curiosity in the natural world.
