ABOUT THE ARTIST

Guenter Heim was a Canadian artist notable for his impressionistic landscapes of western Canada. Born in Nuremburg, Germany, Heim studied under Ludwig Schultheiss. He came to Canada in 1954, and continued his studies at the H.B. Beal Technical School in London, Ontario under Hugh McKenzie and Herb Arris. He worked as a television artist in Wingham, Ontario (1967) and later, he taught at Fanshawe College in London, and Georgian College in Owen Sound, Ontario. He moved to Alberta in 1977. Working in oil, acrylic and watercolour, his subjects include ranch, genre and prairie scenes near Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta and in the Okanagan, British Columbia.

Guenter Heim's work can be found in private collections in Sweden, USA, Venezuela, Denmark, Holland, England, Germany, and Canada, as well as in public collections throughout Ontario and Alberta. Although Guenter Heim lived in Calgary, he was drawn to the Okanagan to paint. Sun Flecks is one fine example of his response to the BC Landscape. Heim was one of four artists included in the invitation to "Artists of the BC Interior,” Penticton Art Gallery, November 13 -December 5, 1981.
