ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mary Jong is a first generation Chinese-Canadian born in Armstrong, British Columbia. Jong attended Okanagan College in Kelowna where she received her Diploma and continued to the University of Victoria under Pat Martin Bates. There she received her Bachelors of Fine Art. Her greatest mentor was Holly Middleton, who inspired her to continue painting. She has had individual shows throughout British Columbia, and many group shows. She was also in the British Columbia Festival of the Arts exhibition in Vancouver, Victoria, Kamloops, Prince George, Kelowna, Vernon, and Armstrong. She majored in printmaking, etching, and serigraph and is now exploring the medium of acrylics.
Her work in our Permanent Collection was selected by the Acquisitions Committee in 1980. A donation by Casabello Wines Ltd. made it possible for the Gallery to qualify for matching funds from the Canada Council Special Purchase Assistance program.
